After the death of her adoptive mother, Fernanda has no choice but to move to her uncle’s near Goia, Brazil. In that region, the spectacular growth of the agri-food industry asks many political and environmental questions. But modernity will not change centuries of beliefs and superstitions, and secrets from Fernanda’s past soon start to re-emerge. Fogareu is the first feature film from young filmmaker Flavia Neves. It is inspired by her own mother’s life, and takes on the point of view of the colonised, which remains a rarity in Brazilian cinema.
