Dr Pretorius and his assistant, Crawford Tillinghast, have managed to tune a resonator that will enable them to explore the next world simply by stimulating a gland in the brain. But the trip isn't safe for Dr Pretorius who literally loses his head. Tillinghast is suspected of foul play and locked up in a psychiatric hospital. A young female psychiatrist and a policeman, eager to understand what has happened, go back to Pretorius' laboratory to re-conduct the experiment with Tillinghast...
