The Tokyo police is utterly puzzled by a mysterious string of mass suicidies. Unable to determine whether they are dealing with isolated events or with an epidemic, the rime suqad helplessly witness the suicide of 54 school girls who jump to their death from a bridge onto the railway. In charge of the investigation, Detective Kuroda holds but very few elements on the case. For one, an informant aka "Bat" who asserts that a clandestine internet site holds the key to the mystery. Even more puzzling, a young boy contacts Kuroda, claiming to know who the next victims will be. Feeling that, behind both the boy's and Bat's revenlations, looms an even more terrifying secret, Kuroda is determined to untangle this incredible puzzle. The ploz then takes a turn for the worse. The film very audaciously and intelligently tackles one of the thorniest problems of today's Japan. Rather tha running a sociological study on schoolchildren's suicidies, says Sono, he tries to depict the "fundamental darkness" that affects human relations.
