During Emperor Heian's reign, fierce rivalries shake up the court about who will succeed Japan's master. Determined not to let anything go undecided, Heian has arranged special protection for his three wives, so that one of them can give him a son, at last. When Heian's favorite wife gives birth to a son, Magician Doson, who is tied in with the conspirators, casts a hellish spell on the child.The future of the Empire now rests on Seimei's skills, a young insolent magician with extraordinary powers. Seimei the Magician is a historic figure, very popular in Japan, who has prompted many book and screen adaptations.
