A major icon of the Japanese filmmaking and ambassador of monster movies – the Kaiju Eiga –, Godzilla first appeared in 1954 directed by Inoshiro Honda and produced by the famous Toho Pictures. To mark the 50th anniversary of the sacred monster, Toho requested Kitamura to produce his version of the myth. And it’s awesome! Monsters, aliens and martial arts are all present in the movie, and “Godzilla: Final Wars” reunites around the lizard, the monsters Mothra, King Gidorah, Rodan, amongst others. This production pays tribute to Kitamura’s modern approach and manages to integrate the classical spirit of the first Godzillas.
