Small Iris is dumped in front of a girls’ boar ding school. Bianca, another boarder, who is wearing a purple ribbon, gives Iris a yellow one before instructing her to follow the rules scrupulously and to respect the hierarchy of the various colours of the ribbons worn by the girls. All these strict and mysterious rules arouse Iris’ curiosity who is determined to discover where Bianca disappears to every night. Iris is not convinced that the explana tion lies in Bianca’s compulsory ballet or reproductive biology lessons, which is what the other girls believe. “Innocence” could be the most original and disturbing fantastic film of the year. This gloomy tale reminds us of “Petites femmes modèles” and provides a feminine and demonic version of a surreal Heidi.
