A killer, a complete maniac as is often the case with Miike, going by the name of Izo has specialised in slaughtering anybody linked to Shogun. On the verge of killing the last surviving Japanese warlord, Izo is captured and crucified. But one doesn’t get rid so easily of a hero created by Mad Miike. Rather, Izo is resurrected into our times where he becomes a wild and furious killing machine. He sets off to wipe off from the face of the Earth all the descendants of the Shogun dynasty. With this bloody sword-fighting film, Miike, has entered a new phase of his career, marked by more maturity and ambition. He succeeds in tackling subjects related to violence and war in a thoughtful way, while letting his imagination run completely wild.
