Johanna, a drug addict, falls into a deep coma following an accident. Thanks to the great care of a young doctor, she comes through and is offered the possibility of becoming a nurse at the hospital that averted her death. But Johanna turns out not to be your usual care taker. Blessed, she succeeds in curing the most gravely ill patients by offering them her body and tenderness. Not very inclined to believing in miracles, all the personnel at the hospital unite themselves against her and declare all out war, from which she will not come out of unharmed ! Considered as a contemporary interpretation of the Passion of Joan of Arc, Johanna is an original and hybrid work juggling between movie and opera. Kornél Mondruczó takes us to an underground world where images are sometimes so beautiful that they are disturbing, oscillating between light and night. And all this supported by a piece of classical music and mind blowing voices.
