Close to retirement, inspector Chan has only one obsession: to get Po, a dangerous mafia head. Unfortunately, he can never gather the necessary proof against him. Chan has to integrate into his team the inspector Ma, a cop who is an expert in martials arts and brutal methods. To settle the score, a chain of downward spiralling vengeance starts, with no end in sight. Wilson Yip, emerging in the last years as a first rate director from Hong Kong, creates for us a nerve racking and violent thriller. The action scenes, choreographed by Donnie Yen, are particularly intense and well crafted. After Infernal Affairs, the Hong Kongian cinema confirms with SPL that it is not timourous in the department of thrillers.
