Sam Bell is an astronaut hired by a firm called Lunar. He is meant to extract Helium 3 from the moon. This natural gas is one of the main resources that can solve the energy crisis on earth. After spending 3 years on a mission with the robot Gerty, Sam is about to go back home and enjoy a quiet life with his wife and daughter. But just before he departs from the moon, he starts hallucinating. A routine exercise turns into a real nightmare and Sam’s mental health is in jeopardy. Or is Lunar hiding things? Or is he just paranoid? This small budget independent film might be announcing to rebirth of SF at the cinema. Like Sleep Dealer (best movie at the NIFFF last year), Moon challenges Hollywood big productions. With references to Blade Runner and 2001: a Space Odyssey; and with the acting performances of Sam Rockwell (Matchstick Men) and Kevin Spacey (in the role of the robot Gerty); Moon is unique and invigorating.
