Manchuria, the Thirties. Three crooks are seeking a fabulous treasure. But they are not alone and they have to face the Japanese army and some quite unpleasant Chinese gangsters. Of course, there is no possibility of sharing the loot. Known as the most expensive Korean movie of all times (17 million dollars), this oriental western does not only pay tribute to the masters of the genre (Leone at its head), but it also reinvents some well known strings thanks to an incredible inventiveness, rhythm and some overwhelming exaggeration. Thus the genius and ardor of Kim Jee-woon (author of the clever A Bittersweet Life) transforms a car chase sequence into a surreal pyrotechnical ballet. Generous, pleasurable and extravagant spectacular cinema!
