ART VIDEO PROGRAM

Opening: 5 July at 7 p.m., performance by Domenico Billari

The fantastic genre always seems to be out of sync with more classic forms of cinema; indeed, the fantastic prevents any rational resolution of h(H)istory by disturbing our interpretation of the real. The dizzying possibilities of the global era are replete with the effects of this same surreal chaos. Video is witness to this very chaos, recording, diffusing and delaying images, sometimes to the point of saturation. In the presentday world where citing – both verbal and visual – is practiced so ubiquitously and unconsciously, do the reality lapses so often prized as a deconditioning tool by the fantastic genre still function?

The CAN is presenting a series of recent video installations by contemporary Swiss and foreign artists on the festival grounds: 3 videos per day/evening/free entry.
