After a stay in Italy, Vlad returns to his native village in Romania. But things have radically changed in his absence. The village’s lands have been entirely redistributed and the region’s most powerful landowners are displaying a very strange behavior, to say the least. They seem to have literally risen from the dead. And what’s going on with one group of men who keep watch over the body of an old man as if they have something dreadful to hide? Vlad leads the investigation and tries to discover what disturbing past his little community is concealing… The term “strigoi” refers to the Romanian vampire. Here, it is used as a metaphor to denounce greed, in a country that continues to live with the ghosts of a communist past and the threat of a European union, nerve-racking on several levels. So forget the pale and elegant bloodsuckers like those in Twilight. The starving ghouls of this film will empty your refrigerator without a second thought, before moving on to you for dessert!
