After the mysterious death of several bears, three film students decide to do a story about the supposed poaching problem in the norwegian mountains. They convince hans, a dour hunter, to accompany them on a night expedition. When they venture deeper into the woods, they find themselves face to face with a monstrous (and gigantic) creature that could well be the cause of the recent events. His name is revealed (or rather, screamed) by hans: “troll!” but he isn’t alone: the area is infested with others, and the students wonder how the government could have covered up such a big secret... No, trolls are not only nice dolls with adorable mogwai eyes. They are also big, mean, ferocious (and sometimes two-headed) beasts that attack you without warning and don’t let go. Deftly combining elements of norwegian folklore and “ found footage”, André Øvredal delivers a breathtakingly suspenseful fantastic comedy.
