This is my favorite horror film and probably my favorite film. It creates an amazing sense of isolation and terror and does so with some of the best uses of music in film. It is also the best use of concert music in any film with pieces by several of my favorite composers : Ligeti, Bartók, and Penderecki. This film shows that horror films can be among the very best made films ever made.
