Winter 1918. Tomas is a young post-mortem photographer who travels to an isolated village plagued with the Spanish flu. Death is everywhere: in the bodies destroyed by the pandemic, and in the ravages of World War I. And yet, something even more terrifying lurks in the shadows… With this ambitious and spectacular film, Péter Bergendy films the harshness of a Hungary in ruins. The bone-chilling atmosphere goes hand in hand with visually striking horror sequences that are truly unique. More evidence that Hungarian genre cinema is very much alive and isn’t done enthralling us.
