Film

Harper is a broken young woman who’s had to deal with her husband’s death. To overcome this ordeal and try to recharge, she rents a beautiful house in the green Hertfordshire countryside. As she starts finding her footing in this new place, Harper makes a series of troubling encounters. What initially seemed like a feeling of discomfort turns into a waking nightmare fed by the young woman’s darkest memories and fears. Shown at this year’s Directors’ Fortnight of the Cannes Festival, Men is a macabre fable that boldly plays with folk horror tropes. Elevated by an incredible central performance from Jessie Buckly, the film is a sensory, anxiety-inducing experience. Its cinematography and music help create a perfectly gloomy world that will plunge the audience in the horrors of the human mind. Frights guaranteed! Alex Garland is a British writer, screenwriter, and director born in 1970. His first short story, The Beach, was published in 1996 and adapted into a film by Danny Boyle in 2000. Alex Garland also wrote the screenplays for 28 Days Later (2002) and Sunshine (2007), two films also directed by Boyle. In 2014, he became a director with the much talked about Ex Machina, which won an Oscar for its special effects. Men is his third feature film.
