Returning to his home village for his former boss’s funeral, Jérémie (Félix Kysyl) is reunited with old acquaintances including Vincent (Jean-Baptiste Durand), the late man’s son and his childhood friend, who disapproves of the burgeoning relationship between his mother (Catherine Frot) and Jérémie. To make matters worse, someone else in the village suddenly vanishes… Alain Guiraudie’s Miséricorde (shown at Cannes) portrays a dying village where mistrust is exploited against an outsider. A dark exploration of rural life that looks at the deepest corners of France and humanity through a pessimistic lens.
