For many years, the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival has been offering activities that help educate to the reading of images, and allow attendants to familiarize themselves with fantasy films in a didactic and playful way.
This cultural mediation offer includes school screenings, thematic workshops, and various activities during the festival.
SCHOOL SCREENINGS
Based on rich foundations notably inherited from literary traditions, fantastic films hold up a reflection of our world while giving it something more. This little extra finds a particularly powerful echo in the creative energy of children, whose mind is powered by imagination and alternative universes. In order to foster creativity and raise the awareness for audiovisual productions, the NIFFF sets about introducing young viewers to the wonders of the cinematic arts with rarely seen films which can kindle their curiosity for culture through their origins and their themes.
Each screening will be supervised by a member of the festival team. For each film and series of shorts, educational resources will be provided to the teachers. They will include avenues for further exploration and contextual information.
- Recommended ages: All levels, from primary to higher education
- Dates: To be determined, between November and June

WORKSHOPS
The NIFFF offers workshops during which students can reflect on images, understand various techniques and the way they work, all while doing something in relation to the subject at hand – always in a fashion suited to the audience.
Setting up these workshops requires close collaboration with the schools, and varies depending on student age and education level, as well as allocated time. The NIFFF always insures the workshop is supervised by the most adequate person.
Teaching materials to help prepare the students for the workshops will also be provided to the schools.
- Recommended ages: All levels, from primary to higher education (depending on workshop)
- Dates: To be determined, between November and June
