MIFF

The Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF) is a network of 29 genre film festivals from 21 countries. With a combined attendance of over 800,000 people, the MIFF is an essential cultural and economic player for fantastic films.

Commitments

The Federation is committed to promoting fantastic European films in Europe and beyond by boosting their visibility and reputation among the audience and within the industry, and by facilitating their distribution.

To do so, it relies on its network of festivals in Europe, on its benefactors in Asia and in North and South America, and on the Méliès Awards granted annually to the most remarkable fantastic European films.

Golden and Silver Méliès

The Méliès is a competition that runs all year long. Eight European festivals, including the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF), award the Silver Méliès to the best fantastic European feature film and to the best fantastic European short film from their selection. Another eleven festivals do so only for short films. Among the winners, one is chosen by a jury to receive the Golden Méliès for Best Fantastic European Film of the year. The Golden Méliès is awarded every year at the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema de Catalunya, in Spain.

The NIFFF and the MIFF

The NIFFF has been an affiliated member of the MIFF network since 2004. It is in charge of organising the Swiss segment of the Silver Méliès for shorts and features. These prestigious awards, granted by the special Méliès jury, are an ideal way to promote fantasy films in Switzerland and Europe. The Silver Méliès competition at NIFFF is cross-sectional.

The competing feature films are part of the following programmes:

  • INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
  • THIRD KIND
  • ULTRA MOVIES
  • AMAZING SWITZERLAND

The competing short films are part of the SWISS SHORTS and INTERNATIONAL SHORTS programmes.

Each year, a new jury composed of three film industry professionals grants the Méliès awards at the end of the festival.
